Time Freight subscribes to a broad-based approach to empowerment as prescribed by legislation in terms of the Department of Trade & Industry BEE scorecard. Black economic empowerment (BEE) is embraced as a value creating strategy, designed to create realistic, meaningful, lasting and sustainable partnerships with those previously denied them.

Employment equity submissions are made annually and Time Freight has achieved in excess of its declared commitments in terms of employment equity plans submitted. The vast majority of the Company’s 1110 permanent employees, as at October 2010, are classified “Designated” employees. Time Freight’s business expansion programmes have resulted in greater employment opportunities for previously disadvantaged individuals and recruitment growth reflect a 5% increase, from 1057 as at October 2009 to 1110, in October 2010.

Time Freight manages a development, training, skills transfer and enhancement policy. Programmes are supported and funding is made available for internal and external education and development initiatives. Skills development plans have been developed and managed since 1999. An important initiative in this regard is the identification and training and developing employees who show managerial potential and who are considered part of a succession-planning program for BEE.

Time Freight and its 50% Principal, the Laser Group (Pty) Ltd, subscribe to a procurement policy to support black owned business entities. In recent years the Group has directed significant spending towards black owned and managed entities.
